Hey Nick I’ve just discovered your channel. My issue is kind of odd and specific. I’ve got a job as a radio music presenter. It’s going okay, but I’m finding it hard to relax and sometimes I feel closed and stilted delivering the short in-between record scripts that should be a doddle, if not fun. This is odd as I’m usually good at public reading (people say) and making characters come alive. (I was also in amateur drama, so normally confident being in the spotlight). But the tension builds each time I’m about to go on-air, staring at the mic, my mouth dries, and my emotional flow becomes stifled. I’ve tried various relaxation techniques with only mediocre success. Even tried to Imagine the mic as my dear friend’s ear. Help!

Podcast sounds Super Nick. It can be quite lonely sometimes! I think more online play readings or actioning classes can always help and keep confidence levels up. Interestingly, I think a lot of the Activator work we did from 22 is just kicking in.. so it’s a process 😊

No I don't run one Nick, I suppose you can feel a little isolated at times. Everything by email and wetransfer and nice to keep your hand in with a live play reading or classes etc.. By the way - do you remember you posted a tip aaages ago where you'd imagine a blob of olive oil on the tip of your finger and you'd place this on the tip of your tongue - all to achieve stillness and presence? Well, I have not been able to to get enough of it over the years. It's worked wonders for me! (I've even got all my LAMDA students doing it too!) I read in a book recently that martial artists say that to quieten the mind (and get rid of internal chatter) keep your tongue still. Probably the same principle, eh? Fascinating!
